My Experience

 

I am passionate about working with female specific health conditions and have experience of therapeutic work with a variety of presenting issues including Pre- and Post-Natal Health, Endometriosis, Menopause, hormonal imbalances and breast health. Often these conditions are not acknowledged or understood and can lead to females delaying seeking help or support from other healthcare professionals. In my work I aim to promote the importance of these conditions and provide an environment for clients to gain a deeper understanding of their condition, learn how to manage it more effectively, both physically and psychologically, and to seek additional treatment and expertise where necessary.  

 

How do I work?

 

Whilst I approach these conditions in the same way as any other individual client work (please see the section on Adult Health) in terms of the Assessment and Formulation process, there is often a more significant focus on the psychological element of the presenting problem, including education about the condition and its associated effects on both physical and psychological health. Through a tailor-made intervention we can work together to achieve your desired goals, as well as you gaining a deeper understanding of your health condition.

 

Female Participation in Sport and Exercise

 

I am a strong advocate for encouraging participation in sport and exercise for females across the lifespan. It is important to me that everyone is encouraged to positively engage with sport and exercise, not only for the physical health benefits, but also the psychological. Overcoming barriers to engagement such as self-conscious emotions, fluctuating menstrual cycles, physical restrictions such as being overweight or feeling inhibited by what clothing is appropriate to wear, lack of motivation, and previous negative experiences are all areas in which I have experience of working. Whilst I work with clients on an individual basis in the same way I do Adult Health related conditions, I am also able to work with Sports Coaches and Fitness Professionals, both male and female, to improve their understanding in this area, including how to address hormonal and physical differences.
